Sporting Lagos FC emerged champions of the 2026 Nigeria National League Super Four despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to city rivals Inter Lagos FC in a dramatic final-day showdown at the Remo Stars Stadium.
The Noisy Lagosians, Sporting Lagos entered Matchday Three knowing a draw would guarantee the title, but Inter Lagos produced a determined display to claim victory in the heated Lagos derby. However, Sporting Lagos dominant performances earlier in the competition proved decisive as both sides finished level on six points, with Sporting edging the title race on superior goal difference to clinch the trophy and the ₦10 million prize money.
Sporting Lagos laid the foundation for their triumph with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ranchers Bees FC in their opening fixture before producing the standout result of the tournament with a ruthless 4-0 demolition of Doma United FC on Matchday Two. That emphatic win handed them a massive advantage heading into the final round and ultimately secured the title despite their derby defeat.
Inter Lagos also enjoyed a strong finish to the tournament after bouncing back from an opening day loss to Doma United. They defeated Ranchers Bees before rounding off their campaign with the crucial win against Sporting Lagos, but their lower goal tally denied them the championship in heartbreaking fashion.
Elsewhere on the final day, Ranchers Bees signed off with a convincing 3-1 victory over Doma United. The Kaduna based side, who had lost their opening two matches, responded with a spirited attacking performance to finish the competition strongly, while Doma United failed to build on the momentum of their opening day victory over Inter Lagos.
All four clubs, Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees and Doma United, have now secured promotion and will compete in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Beyond the football, the atmosphere inside the stadium was electrifying as popular street hop artiste Portable thrilled supporters with a live performance that transformed the arena into a carnival like celebration. His energetic appearance added extra colour and excitement to an already tension filled finale.
The Super Four concluded with drama, noise and high-quality football, underlining the competitiveness of Nigeria’s second tier and setting the stage for an exciting campaign ahead in the NPFL.
