After being named as favorites to host the 2025 AFCON, Guinea is looking at co-hosting the 2025 African Cup of nation with Senegal according to reports from the Senegalese media.

Mamadou Antonio Souare who is the President of the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) has proposed to the Guinean and Senegalese governments an intention to co-host the biggest men’s football event on the continent of Africa with the two West African neighbors.

“It is an option that the two governments could decide,” Antonio Souaré told Senegalese daily Stade.

The Guinean Minister of Sport Sanoussy Bantamba has however opposed to the proposal saying that the country was looking forward to hosting their first ever continental tournament.

Guinea were the supposed host of the 2023 edition of the African cup of nation but were awarded the 2025 tournament as the hosting format changed after Cameroon was stripped off the hosting right of the 2019 edition.

Cameroon was then awarded the 2021 hosting right with the original host Ivory Coast now being named as the 2023 AFCON host.

Most recently in 2012, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea co-hosted the men’s football showpiece with Zambia emerged as surprise winner.
